Classification of (I) by function
According to the function of radar, the main military radar is divided into two categories: search radar and tracking radar.
1. Search radar
The task is to detect long-range military targets as early as possible within the largest possible airspace, mainly for vigilance and other purposes. The search radar must meet two requirements: a long detection range and a large coverage airspace.
2. Tracking radar
It is mainly used for weapon control, providing continuous indication data for weapon systems, and also for missile range measurement. Such as gun targeting radar, missile guidance radar, spacecraft orbit measurement radar.
(II) are classified according to the form of radar signals.
1. Pulse radar
The waveform transmitted by this type of radar is a rectangular pulse, working in a certain or staggered repetition period, which is currently the most widely used.
2. Continuous wave radar
This type of radar emits a continuous sine wave, which is mainly used to measure the speed of the target. If it is necessary to measure the distance of the target at the same time, it is often necessary to modulate the transmission signal, for example, to periodically modulate the frequency of the continuous sinusoidal signal.
3, Pulse Compression Radar
This type of radar transmits a wide pulse wave, and the received echo signal is compressed in the receiver to obtain a narrow pulse. At present, there are two main ways to achieve pulse compression. Chirp pulse compression processing and phase encoding pulse compression processing. Pulse compression can solve the contradiction between distance resolution and action distance.
In addition, there are pulse Doppler radar, noise radar, frequency agile radar and so on.
(III) classified according to other ways
1. Radar bearing platform: ground radar, airborne radar, shipborne radar and spaceborne radar.
2. Angle tracking mode: monopulse radar, cone scanning radar, covert cone scanning radar, etc.
3. Measuring target parameters: altimeter radar, two-coordinate radar, three-coordinate radar, speed radar, target recognition radar, etc.
4. Signal processing methods: various diversity radars (frequency diversity, polarization diversity, etc.), coherent or non-coherent accumulation radars, moving target display radars, synthetic aperture radars, etc.
5. Antenna scanning method: mechanical scanning radar, phased array radar, frequency scanning radar, etc.
