There are many methods for observing water flow, among which various hydrological flow measuring instruments are convenient and reliable.

At present, the flow measurement methods in the hydrological industry mainly include fixed-point flow measurement and non-fixed-point patrol measurement. The method of fixed-point flow measurement is limited to the point measurement at a specific location, which has great limitations. Non-fixed-point flow measurement can only be carried out on bridges and river banks, and it is difficult to carry out fine flow measurement for rivers with wide drainage area and fast flow speed. Especially in the debris flow disaster area, flow measurement is extremely difficult, and there is no suitable equipment for accurate hydrological data collection.

With its flexible and convenient working mode, combined with the requirements of demand-oriented and innovative services, UAV detection radar can reduce the risk factor of manual measurement, improve work efficiency and measurement accuracy under the conditions of rapid emergency demand and harsh environment.

The hydrological monitoring of UAV detection radar is made by using the principle of Doppler effect. When working, it will produce electromagnetic waves on the water surface, and when it meets the moving water surface, it will scatter and form an echo. Since the received echo frequency is offset from the transmitted frequency, the velocity of the water surface can be obtained by the Doppler frequency equation, and the moving target will produce a low-frequency output signal at the radar sensor. The frequency of this signal depends on the moving speed, and the amplitude depends on the installation distance, reflectivity and the size of the moving target. The Doppler frequency f is proportional to the motion velocity.
