According to the working principle of radar, regardless of the frequency of the transmitted wave, as long as the electromagnetic energy is radiated and the echo reflected from the target is used to detect and locate the target, it belongs to the scope of radar system. Commonly used radar operating frequency range of 220MHz ~ 35000MHz, in fact, all kinds of radar operating frequency at both ends are beyond the above range. For example, the working frequency of the sky wave over the horizon (OTH) radar is 4MHz or 5MHz, while the working frequency of the ground wave over the horizon is as low as 2MHz. At the other end of the spectrum, millimeter-wave radar can operate up to 94GHz, and lidar operates at higher frequencies. The radar with different operating frequency varies greatly in engineering implementation.

The operating frequency of the radar and the entire electromagnetic spectrum are shown in the figure. In fact, most radars operate in the 200MHz to 10GHz frequency band.
